About the Discussion
The State of the After School Policy Discussion is an online conversation between local, state, and national leaders in the After School Movement. This will be a conversation about what the After School Movement can do to confront systemic racism and unpack the effects of distance learning on our children.
We are honored to have Jamila Lyiscott Ph.D, author of Black Appetite. White Food: Issues of Race, Voice, and Justice Within and Beyond the Classroom, as our Keynote Speaker. We will also be joined by the 2019 California Teacher of the Year, Rosie Reid, Pittsburg City Councilmember Shanelle Scales Preston, Richmond City Councilmember Demlus Johnson III, and Teachers College, Columbia University graduate N'dea Johnson.
This virtual policy discussion will include everyone's favorite experiences, inspirational and thoughtful presentations for educational policy experts, virtual audience participation, and for ticket holders you will get your own policy journal and educational policy book!
We hope that this year's virtual event will allow even more of the Bay Area's after school community and children's advocates to join us and participate in this special event.
